Emotional and Behavioural Problems

Children and adolescents sometimes find it difficult to verbalise their feelings and emotions. Emotional and behavioural difficulties may be due to a number of reasons, including trauma, bereavement, bullying, relocation, change of schools, divorce, a parent getting remarried etc.

 

By combining a number of indirect and direct measures, the cause of an emotional or behavioural problem is assessed and determined. These measures may include drawings, sentences, free play, formal projective tests, behavioural and emotional checklists, and interviewing the child’s parents or caregivers.

Emotional and behavioural difficulties may be due to a number of reasons, including trauma, bereavement, bullying, relocation, change of schools, divorce, a parent getting remarried etc.
Depending on the age of the child, play therapy and visualisation techniques may be considered as the best option.

Therapies & Options Available

Emotional and behavioural problems are addressed in a number of ways. Depending on the age of the child, play therapy and visualisation techniques may be considered as the best option. Adolescents respond very favourably to some play therapy techniques, and will benefit from visualisation, hypnotherapy and narrative therapy. Intervention also focus on providing parental guidance, and when needed, intervention at the school.
